Sidelined By Injury.

Notice my absence? Maybe you did, maybe you didn’t.  I’ve been trying to write this post for some time now and every time I sit down to write it I become and angry and can’t seem to finish the post.  I’m apologizing for the lack of photos in the post right now, because there aren’t going to be any.  In September,  I set out with a goal to run my first half marathon in January.  Sometime in the middle of October I started to notice throbbing pain in my hip are at night, after long runs and after sitting in the car for longer drives.  I brushed the pain off at first as just normal pain associated with training so hard but as the pain got worst and I wasn’t able to jog, let alone run, I thought it was time to see my doctor.  See my doctor was just what I did, and what do you know I had Hip Bursitis.  Don’t know what that is?  Neither did I when my doctor told me.  This is the definition from “Bursitis is caused by inflammation of a bursa, a small jelly-like sac that usually contains a small amount of fluid. Bursae are located throughout the body, most importantly around the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and heel. They act as cushions between bones and the overlying soft tissues, and help reduce friction between the gliding muscles and the bone.” I was referred to an orthopedist for evaluation and treatment.  Needless to say I left my doctors office incredibly disappointed and angry. Why? Why me?  I wasn’t sure why I was being sidelined and I was mad, so mad that I stopped blogging, something I loved doing, and stopped focusing on exercising entirely.  I spent the rest of October and November seeing my orthopedist and focusing on getting rid of this problem.  Believe me, I tried to write this post so many times but I was just so angry.  Why could I write it tonight?  Because today, for the first time since mid-October I ran.  It wasn’t a long run, I didn’t calculate it and if I had to guess I would say it wasn’t even a mile, but it was a run and I’m damn proud of that run.  I’m sure you’ve guessed it by now but my half-marathon plans have been put on hold indefinitely (I’m hoping to run one in May) and I’m working up to running again.  I’m so excited to finally move past the anger and be able to blog again, I’ve missed you all.  So there, in my pictureless post is my reason for my absence, but don’t fret I’m back, and back for good 🙂

  1. Sorry to hear about your injury, Kelsey–that’s the worst. 😦 Even though it’s tough, make sure you take things slowly and let yourself heal up. The question isn’t *if* you’re going to finish a half-marathon, it’s just a matter of *when* you’ll cross the finish line. It’s in the cards, so don’t worry!

  2. Oh daaarlinnnng I was totally wondering where you were! I’m so glad to hear from you but not so glad about this injury thing! Just take it easy, your body was obviously trying to tell you something. We’re here for you! ❤
